Bill Free in Hall of Fame 2004-02-27
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Free received the prestigious award at the OAA’s state convention held Feb. 1-2 in Clackamas. He is one of only four auctioneers in the history of the OAA to receive the award. “I was completely surprised,” he said. “I was on the Hall of Fame Committee and hadn’t received any calls or nominations from members so I thought we weren’t going to induct anyone this year.” Criteria for being named to the Hall of Fame includes active involvement in the OAA, the National Auctioneers Association, and the community. Free has been a member of the OAA for the past 27 years, serving on the Board of Directors. He served one term as vice president and two terms as president. He also was named Grand Champion in the Oregon Grand Champion Auctioneer Competition in 1999 and in 2002. He has been a member of the NAA since 1985. He is a 1989 graduate of the Certified Auctioneers Institute, the highest designation awarded to auctioneers. Free’s involvement in his community is endless. He recently became music director at his church, First Baptist of Florence, where he and his wife, Marti, also take part in a lawn care service for older adults. The couple are dedicated volunteers for the Florence Literacy Council, an organization that offers reading programs, English as a Second Language classes and more to adults. For many years, they served as volunteers in the Big Brothers and Sisters program, along with their four children. In 2000, they were named Family of the Century by the General Motors Corporation for their community involvement and leadership. Owner and manager of Free and Associates Auction Realty, Free specializes in real estate auctions serving the needs of residents throughout the state. He has been in the auction business for nearly 24 years.
“I love the diversity it provides me, and I also like the different people that I meet,” he said. |
